6th June 2004
Two days ago I picked up my new toy - a 2004 Skoda Octavia vRS.
I know it's not an Audi exactly, but it is rather lovely, and surprisingly quick. It has the same 180bhp 20v turbo engine as the Audi TT (amongst others).
I case you're wondering, I started off looking at Audis, gradually talked myself out of an S2 Avant on running costs and age, and eventually came round to looking at second-hand A4s. Diesel ones too!
I went to the Audi dealer in Leeds with all good
intentions, hoping to find an older car for around 15 grand. But I was ignored
for 40 minutes then basically told to go elsewhere because they weren't
interested in selling me a car for less than 20 grand.
So I went to the Skoda garage down the road where I was drawn to a year-old
black Octavia vRS estate. The sales guy wandered out of the front door, lit up a
fag, offered me a coffee and basically we had a chat for 40 minutes. To cut a
long story short I ended up buying a brand new vRS with Xenon headlights and
reversing sensors.
The vRS is a lovely car, and the price was much nearer my target, but a big part
of what made me buy it was the dealer's attitude.
I can't see why Audi dealers feel the need to be so arrogant. They have an
excellent product, but I can see lots of potential customers being put off by
their attitude.
Anyway, rant over! More Audi stuff soon.
I can't help it! Skoda page here
