As my steering wheel is far from its correct alignment, and I've changed the wheels for very slightly different sized ones, I wanted to get the tracking done. Unfortunately the tracking adjusters are rusted solid.
So I went to the Audi dealer parts department - 169 quid for the two arms, and they were on back order - no idea of lead time.
Next stop was a local VAG specialist in Leeds - IVC - the Independent Volkswagen Centre. I've had lots of recommendations for them and they seem to really know their stuff. Parts prices were much better but still on back order. I waited a couple of weeks then decided to try the small motor factors shop opposite my work in Wortley, Leeds. "No problem mate - get you them tomorrow, 80 quid the pair".
So...
One of these nuts came straight off - the other came half off then started
spinning the shaft - I had to use a hacksaw in the end!
Had to get all four of these bolts out. I got one off in no time - then spent
two hours on the other three before ringing Steve for help!
He used a blowtorch :-)
As usual the job took much longer than expected. And one of the supplied parts
is not correct, so I couldn't even finish the job.
To be continued...
...
Once I got the replacement arm (right bag, wrong contents!) it was a quick job
to get the new arms bolted on.
I got the tracking done by Gordon's Autocentre in Wakefield - the steering
wheel's straight now and it feels much better :-)
